Once upon a time, being labeled a dive bar was an insult that most people didn't want their establishment or their favorite bar to be associated with. Nowadays, being labeled as a dive bar is arguably one of the best compliments that your bar could get. Dive bars have become a niche part of the American culture over the last couple of years and most people can point you in the direction of multiple dive bars in their city with no hesitation.

Dive bars have been described as small, eclectic, old-style bar that normally has less expensive drinks than other bars in the other. Many of these bars will appear to be rundown, dimly light, have packaged beer sales, local clientele, cash only sales, and other factors tailoring to the experience. Every state has a selection of dive bars, but the hard thing is finding the best one in the area.

Michigan is one of the many states in America that has a plethora of dive bars to compare, making it harder to narrow the list down to one that is better than the others. First things first, everyone has their own opinion on which dive bars are the best and why but it's clear that local clientele will be bias in these cases. Luckily, both Tripsavvy and Mediafeed have done the research for us, and each have found what they believe to be the best dive bar in Michigan.

Tripsavvy says that Abick's Bar in Detroit, Michigan is the best dive bar in the state using the following words:

With roots dating back to the early 1900s, Abick’s Bar is Detroit’s oldest and arguably most unique, family-owned and operated bar. This local hangout is a staple in the community and has provided a space for neighbors to meet and socialize. Tin ceilings, walls studded with antiques and old relics, and a shiny wooden bar create a welcoming environment where everyone feels comfortable. Hopefully, you’ll get the chance to meet the owner’s large English mastiff named Shadow.

Mediafeed on the other hand says that Rubble's Bar in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan is the best dive bar in the state. Here's Mediafeed's reasoning for placing Rubble's at #1:

Live music, karaoke and good drink specials keep this watering hole near Central Michigan University lively on almost any night of the week.

I've personally never been to either and can't think of a dive bar that I enjoy because I don't go out drinking often. But, what's your favorite dive bar in Michigan?
