Dangerous and Terrifying TikTok Trend Could Harm Michigan Residents

TikTok has become one of the most popular social media platforms over the last few years. Everyone wants to garner views, follows, fame, and money from the short video content platform. This has led to many different things like dances, pranks, trivia, and other popular trends taking over the app for days.

While some people are old enough and mature enough to understand when to stop and how to conduct themselves in some of these situations, many young children are following in their footsteps and don't have the same discernment. This is why we have seen several popular trends go silent after something unfortunate occurs.

Just like anything else in the world, TikTok trends are on a revolving cycle, so everything that was once popular becomes popular again. For example, baggy jeans, high-top shoes, crop tops, Y2K vibes, and more have become top-tier fashion styles. Now, there is a TikTok trend that has made it back to the top of the mountain.

In 2021, there was a "Door Kick" trend that went viral and encouraged individuals to have someone record them kicking someone's door in the middle of the night. This is troublesome for many reasons:

• First, You're interrupting someone's home and sleep for a viral video.
• Second, you're causing hundreds of dollars of damage to the door and doorframe.
• Third, the video is evidence for the cops or anyone else to use. Once it's on the internet it's forever available.
• Lastly, you're placing yourself, your friend, and the people inside of the home in danger.

There have been reports of the trend picking up steam all around the country again. There are no confirmed instances in Michigan at this moment but the trend could hit close to home at any time. The police are warning homeowners to be aware of the trend and warning those participating that it could be dangerous.

Firstly, the police say that the trend is a misdemeanor offense that could result in jail time and/or a fine. Also, the homeowners could choose to defend their home in whatever they feel is necessary which could turn the prank into a physical or even deadly situation.

This trend is so dangerous because, over the last year or so, home invasion numbers have climbed and continued to climb. So, how is a homeowner supposed to know the difference between someone doing the trend and someone trying to break into their home?

The police are encouraging homeowners to call the police if they hear someone kicking at their door and to allow the responding officers to deal with the perpetrators. They say that some of the pranksters are looking for an encounter that would encourage them to stay longer and kick harder.

At the end of the day, if you're looking to get TikTok famous, stay away from trends like this as they could land you in jail, the hospital, or worse. Also, be cautious when answering your door or protecting your home as that could lead to adverse consequences as well.
