Those of us that travel and drive long distances know that toll roads are all over the country and help many states fund the maintenance of their roads and highways. Unfortunately, Michigan is one of the many states that chooses to not charge drivers tolls for using their highways and roads. This begs the question, should Michigan eventually become a toll state?

If you have no experience with tolls than you wouldn't know that not paying your tolls could lead to issues with your license and registration down to line. Some people pay for the toll passes with a monthly or yearly subscription, so they don't have to worry about it for the time being, others have to have the cash on hand or remember to pay them electronically later.

Scammers have jumped on this opportunity and have created a scan surrounding toll payment. Many people in Michigan have already received text encouraging them to pay their FastTrak Lane tolls by a certain date to avoid losing their license. There is also a link that you're supposed to click or copy into your browser in the text, whatever you do, DO NOT CLICK OR COPY THIS LINK INTO YOUR BROWSER.

The FBI has confirmed that this text is a part of a smishing scam where individuals are trying to gain access to your personal information or even your bank accounts. The FBI and other police agencies are encouraging anyone who receives this text to report them and delete them from their phone.

This has been a reoccurring scam that should be added to the list of scams to look out for. Below is a list of scams that residents of Michigan should be aware of:
