College Basketball Coach Humbled After Calling Michigan Tech Nobody U
College sports have become one of the most exciting parts of our lives. We spend so much of the year rooting for our favorite institutions as they try to win a national championship in their respective sports. A lot has changed in that realm of life with playoffs, NIL, and the transfer portal, but at the same time, a lot is still the same.
One of those things is larger schools paying smaller schools to travel to their university to get beat. I mean those teams aren't coming with the mindset that they will lose, but most of the time the skill gap is too much to overcome. This happens in every sport and both teams get something from it as one team gets money and the other gets a chance to boost confidence and find their rhythm.
Well, let me be the first to tell you that's not always the case. Some of these smaller schools show up ready to play and in the end, find themselves in possession of an upset victory. We all know the story of the teams underestimating the team of lesser skill and losing, that saga has returned.
Michigan Technological University plays basketball at the NCAA Divison 2 level and has been off to an impressive start. That impressive start includes a victory over Division 1 Green Bay, which has some added significance after the words of the Green Bay coach. Just before playing the Huskies, the Green Bay coach referred to Michigan Tech as "Nobody U".
This would prove to be a vital mistake as the Huskies turned this quote into bulletin board material and prepared a crucial game plan. Michigan Tech took the trip to Wisconsin executing their game plan flawlessly and came out on top with a 72-70 victory, forcing the Green Bay coach to eat his words.
Social media has had a field day with the clip of the coach and the outcome of the game. At the end of the day, he is proving that you shouldn't underestimate any opponent at any time because hard work beats talent when talent fails to work hard. The best part is he said, "What do we learn playing a game when we win by 20?"
Below are some of the social media posts about the game and quote:
