At What Age Can A Child Be Left Alone In Michigan?
I was raised by a single mother who worked long shifts as a nurse at the hospital, because of this we spent a lot of time at the babysitter.

Eventually, when I was in 5th grade and my younger brother in 2nd, we started walking to our elementary school in the morning and then back home in the afternoon.
We would have snacks in the fridge or pantry and if mom was going to be working really late I would sometimes make simple things like grilled cheese and tomato soup or a frozen pizza in the oven.
Some people might think that being left alone at 10 years old is too young, I thought I was old enough, but was curious to know if Michigan actually has a law about what age a child can be left home alone.
Michigan's Minimum Age To Be Left Alone
In Michigan, there is no minimum age on the books to be left alone, but there are several important factors that all adults should consider before leaving a child home alone.
- Is your child physically and mentally able to care for him- or herself?
- Does your child obey rules and make good decisions?
- Does your child feel comfortable or fearful about being home alone?
