Michigan Egg Prices Expected To Surge In 2025

Currently in Michigan, the average price for a dozen eggs is around $6.

I've heard from friends in northern Michigan that they had to pay $10, while I recently managed to score two dozen eggs for less than $3 each in Grand Rapids.

According to a new forecast by the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) egg prices in Michigan and across the United States are expected to go up 41% by the end of 2025.

Why Egg Prices Are Going Up So Much

We can thank an outbreak of a severe avian influenza (HPAI) for the rising costs.

The USDA reported that approximately 18.8 million commercial egg layers were affected by HPAI in January 2025. There is some good news regarding chicken: poultry prices are expected to remain stable in 2025.
