The Common Leaf Mistake Michigan Homeowners Make That Can Lead to a Ticket

I'm a bit embarrassed to admit that I did this but hopefully by me sharing what I did hopefully someone else doesn't make the same mistake that could be costly to your wallet and potentially dangerous and deadly to someone.

This past weekend I had some downtime and started doing some basic yard work before the end of the year.

One of the big things I deal with every year is raking and blowing the ungodly amount of leaves that fall from the tree in our backyard.

I would rake the leaves onto the driveway and then use my leaf blower to push them towards the street.

Turns out that's not only illegal, but it's also very dangerous.

In the City of Grand Rapids and many communities across Michigan it is against the law to blow leaves or grass clippings into the road.

One reason it's against the law is that those leaf's and grass clippings can blow down the street or get carried by rain water into storm drains causing them to become clogged which could lead to flooding.

Another reason to not blow your leaves and grass clippings into the road is because they can create slippery, and hazardous conditions for motorcyclists and bicyclists.

I have to admit, I never even thought about how dangerous that could be.
