A Michigan man who recently hit it big on a scratch-off ticket is closer to that goal.

The big winner chose to remain anonymous, but did share with the Michigan Lottery what led to him purchasing the winning lottery ticket.

The 66-year-old man is from St. Joseph and decided to play a newer game that he's never played before.

“I typically only play $5 and $10 tickets, but $2,000,000 Lucky was one of the newer games at the store I usually go to, so I gave it a try, Game five was the last part of the ticket I scratched, so when I revealed the first ‘$2MIL’ symbol I thought: ‘Well this ticket is a loser,’ because I never thought I’d actually win the $2 million top prize."

 

But he did win, after scratching off the second $2MIL symbol he went back into the store and had the worker scan it.

The man then handed him a slip that said to file a claim at the Lottery office and that’s when he knew he had just won $2 million!

The man took the winning ticket to Michigan Lottery headquarters in Lansing and decided to get the one-time lump payment which is around $1.3 million.

He now plans to retire and enjoy his time traveling.
