Kalamazoo Ribfest Taking Hiatus In 2024

After 35 years of bringing live music, and great food to downtown Kalamazoo during the summer, it was announced on Thursday, Dec. 14, 2023 that Kalamazoo Ribfest will officially be on hiatus for 2024.

Townsquare Media announced it would not be producing the vent after careful consideration, and will consider 2024 a "strategic pause" to reflect on the past, plan for the future, and ensure an even more exceptional experience "When We Return."

A press release issued by Townsquare acknowledges the important role Ribfest has played for the community. Since its inception, it has attracted thousands of people annually, and set a standard for excellence in Kalamazoo.

"The decision to take a hiatus in 2024 is not taken lightly, and we make this announcement with a sense of gratitude and nostalgia."

Townsquare media also recognized the immense support from the sponsors, partners, vendors, and the attendees who have made Ribfest a success through the years.

"We especially appreciate the support of the Arc Community Advocates, who have been a part of the event since its inception."

Jennifer Scheihing, who is the director for Live events at Townsquare Media also said in the release that the company will remain committed to delivering top-tier events. During the hiatus, her team will be hard at work brainstorming new concept, enhancing event features, and working toward the return of Ribfest, hopefully in the near future.

"We understand that this news may disappoint our loyal attendees and partners, and we sincerely appreciate your understanding and continued support. We look forward to our return and bringing you an event more exciting, engaging, and a more memorable Ribfest."

Historically, Ribfest has taken place in the first weekend of August for the past 35 years. This will be the second pause in its history, following 2020 when COVID 19 shut down almost all public events and gatherings.
