Baseball is a fun sport to follow, and I mean that sarcastically. Just when you get comfortable with the names and talents on your team, somebody gets traded, or benched, or moved to a new position. It's a revolving door of players moving, and being traded almost non-stop. But every once in a while, a player will get lucky, and saddled with a team they ORIGINALLY thought would be a rough ride, and end up in the best possible position for success.

For the Detroit Tigers, though, maybe the luckiest man in the organization isn't on the field, but rather in the broadcast booth during nearly every single game.

For half of the last decade, the voice of the Detroit Tigers has been Matt Shepherd with Bally Sports, but at the end of 2023, he was informed that he would not be returning. Enter Jason Benetti, a broadcast professional who has worked with just about everyone on every level of sports broadcasting.

He's had gigs with ESPN, NBC Sports National, and in the Chicago area, and is still working with Fox Sports' National Coverage. But in early 2024, it was announced that he would also be the new main voice of the Detroit Tigers.

At the time, it was more of a lateral move for Benetti, but as this season unfolded, it became clear that Benetti might have been the luckiest change to the entire organization, as he came to the HOTTEST team in baseball, from Chicago's Southside.

Yep, Benetti used to be the voice of the Chicago White Sox, who just put up their worst season, not just in franchise history, but also in Major League Baseball... period. Instead, Benetti is moving on to the postseason with his new home in Detroit, calling Tigers games on the east side of Lake Michigan.

Whether he knew it at the time, or not, Benetti made the exact right, and luckiest decision of his baseball calling career, walking away from the White Sox, and into the Tigers' organization.

That's not to say he doesn't still miss his time in Chicago, but when your career centers around success and winning games... Benetti hit the Detroit Jackpot at JUST the right time.

GO TIGERS!
