Michigan Community Hosting Free Laundry Day At Local Laundromat
One thing I've learned in life is that everyone doesn't have the same opportunities or resources as the next person. Everyone in the world is living a different life and has gone down a different path as the decisions and circumstances they are in are unique to them. No two people live the same life or have the same circumstances so we shouldn't judge anyone based upon what they do and do not have access to.
One of those things is clothing, access to laundry services, or both of them. Everyone doesn't have a dresser, wardrobe, or closet full of clothes and there are still levels to those that do. Some people have a standard four-drawer dresser, while others have more drawers or walk-in closets. On top of that, some people have access to laundry services in their homes, some have to share with their apartment building, or some have to go to the laundromat. Then, there is a group of people that either don't have or can't afford any of those options.
It's no secret to anyone who lives in the Kalamazoo area that there is a very apparent homeless problem within our community. This also means that there are a lot of people who don't have resources such as laundry or can't afford them. Luckily, Kalamazoo has tons of good-hearted people who are devoted to helping these people get back on their feet or help them with certain resources when they can. Laundry is one of those services that these individuals will often receive from those who offer to help.
Another community is coming together to help the homeless and less fortunate have access to laundry services even if it's only for a short time. People from the Milwood neighborhood and other neighborhoods around the city have pitched together to partner with a local laundromat to provide free laundry to those who may need it. There are a few things to know ahead of time but we got you covered.
In the Facebook post above, Cork St Laundry has agreed to open their business to this community for them to have some fresh, clean laundry. They are calling it the Soap and Hope Free Community Laundry Day which will take place on Wednesday, August 21st. Cork St Laundry is located at 823 E. Cork St and the event will run from 10 am to 2 pm.
They are asking anyone who wants to participate to register using the QR code on the poster but also that laundry detergent will be provided and each person can have up to 4 loads paid for. All loads before 10 am or after 1 pm must be paid for out of pocket, the last loads for the event must be in by 1 pm.
