The existence of other living beings outside of those that are on Earth has been a strongly debated topic for hundreds of years and neither side has gotten any closer to proving themselves right. I would imagine that this will be a heavily debated topic until the end of the world as there will always be conspiracy theorist and doubters that will look for any chink in the armor or glimmer of hope to hang on to.

Either way, there are people on both sides of the fence which makes the following list an even more interesting topic. One of the biggest pushers in the dialogue is the apparent sightings of Unidentified Flying Objects (UFOs) as each time one is reported and supposedly captured in picture or video, the conversation starts to ramp up. So, are these dozens of UFO sightings in Michigan aliens or some other flying object?

I don't think there is anything about the climate or vantage point of Michigan that makes the state more susceptible to possible UFO sightings, but the numbers were much larger than I thought they would be. There are a number of reasons as to why that number may be so high but I'm not going to try and figure it out, instead I'll just tell you how many times UFOs were possibly spotted in various cities across the Mitten State.

The National UFO Reporting Center has a large database full of hundreds of thousands of possible UFO sightings from around the world as thousands of them flood in every year from all over America and beyond. You're also able to view the reporting statistics for each state and country as well, Michigan comes in as the 12th most reported state with 3700 reports.

Michigan has had 32 UFO sightings reported so far in 2024 and they have been in the Southwestern, Southeastern, Northern, and other regions of the state. The following Michigan cities have had at least 1 UFO sighting this year:

  • Eagle Harbor
  • Perry
  • Southgate
  • Westland (2)
  • Battle Creek
  • Troy
  • Coopersville
  • Manistique
  • Lake City
  • Ann Arbor (2)
  • Detroit
  • Clinton Township
  • Kalamazoo (2)
  • Lakeport
  • Charter Township of Berlin
  • Springfield
  • Whitmore Lake
  • Oscoda
  • St Clair Shores
  • Berrien Center
  • Mount Morris Township
  • Sterling Heights (2)
  • Vermontville
  • Caledonia
  • Holly
  • Portage
  • Gross Pointe Farms
  • Dewitt

There were several different reasons given as to why they could or could not be UFOs that were sighted in the Michigan skies and a plethora of shapes that the objects were seen in, meaning that this couldn't have been the same object over and over. Does this make you lean on either side of the alien conversation?

LOOK: The states with the most UFO sightings

For each state, we’ve also included details of famous UFO sightings in that state. Of note is that almost three-quarters of all UFO sighting reports in the United States occur between 4 p.m. and midnight, and tend to peak between 9 and 10 p.m. Food for thought next time you're out scoping for alien life. Keep reading to see which states have had the most UFO sightings.

Michigan's President Gerald Ford's UFO Papers

In June of 1966, following a number of unidentified flying objects spotted in Southern Michigan and other parts of the country, then United States Congressman Gerald R. Ford took the United States Air Force to task for trying to dismiss his constituents' sightings as the result of swamp gas. Here are the papers, courtesy of the Gerald R Ford Presidential Library & Museum.
