Working is inevitable, as long as you are a capable human being to live in this world you must have some income or you take your chances in the wild. Looking at the current landscape of the working world in America, you are spending at least 8 hours at your place of employment for at least 5 days out of the week. That's 40 hours and after running errands, resting, and other essential needs you are left with little to no time to yourself to enjoy.

Being a parent is a choice that many of us make and a choice that many of us are planning to make throughout our lives. The children that are born are always gifts to the world and give parents something to live for, but also that means it is another responsibility that they have to take care of. This makes your life a little harder as you have to navigate their needs and yours. So what is life like for working parents in Michigan?

It's no secret that being a parent is harder than being an adult who has no kids, but how does being a parent in the Mitten State differ from other states? Well, there are only 2 states that are worse to be living in as a working parent than Michigan. A study was taken factoring in childcare affordability, public-school rankings, maternity leave pay, maternity leave length, and the cost of living.

When looking at the landscape of working in Michigan as a parent the factors above are not the greatest. So it sounds like if parents had the choice they wouldn't want to live in Michigan while being a parent. Michigan had the third worst score of all 50 states in America with a score of 26.8. So, how did the individual metrics rank for Michigan?

Michigan, like the others on the worst states list, offers no paid maternity leave and is also ranked 29th for public schools. Not only that, but the state has one of the highest rates of income spent on childcare at 41%.  The average annual income in Michigan is only $56,813 which isn't terrible but the cost of living index is 91.

I'm not saying that Michigan is the worst place to raise your kids but it's not the best either. It makes being a parent a little tougher than others though, so I commend all of the parents in Michigan who are making it happen for their babies! Below is a ranking of the best and worst states for US working parents.
