Michigan Casino Chain To Reopen Following Ransomware Attack
A couple of weeks ago, a casino chain in Michigan was hit with a ransomware attack that would take all of their systems down for an unforeseen amount of time. Kewadin Casinos which has 5 physical locations, and several online services was completely dark and shut down while they sorted out the cyberattack.

They announced at the time that they had no exact date or timeline on when services would return to online users and when their physical locations would open again. They said that they would only be reopening once the issues have been completely resolved, and their hope was that it wouldn't take too long.
Those who enjoy gambling in the state of Michigan will be excited to hear the good news coming from Kewadin this week. They announced on their social media that they are preparing to start the reopening process in the next couple of days. They will be opening the physical branches one at a time in a roll out plan fashion.
All of the casinos and the hotels and restaurants that are inside of them will reopen with normal business hours and all hotel reservations will be honored starting Wednesday unless cancelled by the customer. After being shut down for 16 days Kewadin Casinos will reopen in the following schedule:
- The Sault Ste. Marie casino will be the first to open at noon on Wednesday.
- The St. Ignace location will open at noon on Friday.
- The casinos in Manistique, Christmas and Hessel will open at noon on March 3.
They still don't know the full extent of the cyberattack that they discovered on February 9th, but they do know that at least 10 of their members personal information was accessed but they will be offering free credit monitoring services to any members who wish to utilize it.
There is no information explicitly stating when the online services will be restored for users in Michigan, but I would assume that it is either by the end of next week. I would still suggest looking to Kewadin for information about the online platforms.
