Some people would argue that Michigan is just an average place to live while others would fall on the extreme sides of this line. There are people who are extremely proud to be born, raised, and still living in Michigan while others acknowledge where they came from but couldn't wait to get out of the Mitten state as soon as possible. No matter how you feel about it, the statistics won't lie to us about how good of a state Michigan is to live in or the opposite.

Depending on where you are from or where you are living in the state of Michigan, your answer could vary. The people who live in the rural areas or smaller towns may find it harder to believe that Michigan is as best as it gets while those who live in the larger cities or even the metropolitan areas may find Michigan to be one of the better places to live in the country based upon what's around them. Well, the question of best places to live in the United States has been answered and these Michigan cities made the list.

According to a U.S. News & World Report, 6 different Michigan cities made the list for the top 150 cities in America to live in. Yeah, I know, I'm flabbergasted too but somehow the Mitten state is full of amazing places to live. The research was done using factors such as: crime rates, housing affordability, the job market, and more were all assessed and taken into consideration.

Each state was given a score for quality of life, another score for value, and an overall score. Michigan was able to land 6 cities within the top 150 cities in the United States Ann Arbor, Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, Lansing, Flint, and Detroit in that order. Here is how each city scored:

  • Ann Arbor: the 19th best city in the country which was given a 7.7 for quality of life, a 5.8 for value, and an overall score of 6.6
  • Grand Rapids: the 45th best city in America which was given a 6.9 for quality of life, a 7.5 for value, and an overall score of 6.4
  • Kalamazoo: the 90th best city in the United States which was given a 6.9 for quality of life, a 6.8 for value, and an overall score of 6.1
  • Lansing: the 104 best city in the US which was given a 6.2 for quality of life, a 7.2 for value, and an overall score of 6.0
