Michigan High School Catches Fire Days After Approved Renovation Plans
Abandoned buildings are one of the biggest concerns for fires as many times there are homeless individuals using them as shelter. They will start fires, use propane heaters, and other fire hazards to keep themselves warm which can have adverse effects. The main thing that happens is these buildings catch fire. Sometimes these fires have nothing to do with the homeless population but instead are intentional.

Arson is an extremely serious offense as this places many people in danger and causes harm to our environment. Police and fire officials are always putting resources toward finding arsonists and putting an end to their antics. Many arsonists will target places like abandoned buildings because they know the danger is limited and they aren't under as much surveillance.
Police in Michigan are about to embark on a new arson investigation after an abandoned building was set ablaze. The Flint Central High School building that has been vacant for years was found burning by fire and police around 11 am on February 27th. The school has been closed since 2009 due to declining enrollment and maintenance costs.
The Flint Fire Department, with support from the Genesee County Sheriff’s Office, responded to 601 Crapo St to find the building on fire. They were able to put the fire out and report no injuries. Flint Community schools are disappointed that someone would break in and set fire to the school.
This was at least the 4th time that the school has caught fire as there are reports of fires in 2017, 2022, and 2024 as well. They are investigating the origins of the fire and are asking anyone with information to come forward to help find the resolution. The kicker is all of this comes after great news from Flint Community Schools.
FCS had just announced that they would be accepting a grant to the tune of $750,000 to build a new school on the Flint Central campus. They are also seeking other financial support opportunities to make the project come to life. The grant comes from the Charles Stewart Mott Foundation and FCS is looking to build a state-of-the-art facility.
They are beginning the planning for the new building in March, and it's expected to take 6 months. Once completed they will draw up contracts and break ground to bring back a lost school.
