Michigan Man Dies, Child Injured In Snowmobile Accident
Michigan has gotten its first significant snowfall of the year as many parts of the Mitten state are blanketed with white, fluffy snow. As this happens every single year, it should be no surprise to anyone, but it always catches people off guard. There have already been multiple slide offs, car crashes, and pileups since the winter weather has arrived.
Many people in Michigan love when the weather begins to get cold, and the snow starts to fall as they enjoy the winter sports. There are tons of skiers, snowboarders, sledders, and other winter sports participants in Michigan who value this time of year. One of those niche groups, are the people who choose to travel by snowmobile.
Snowmobiles are very similar to dirt bikes and are meant to travel through snow at high speeds while having advanced control. There are many people in the lower peninsula who like to ride snowmobiles when they get the chance but most of the riders are in the Upper Peninsula where they get much more snow than the rest of the state.
Unfortunate Ride
As we all know, Michigan saw its first heavy snowfall over the last week but the U.P had already seen that winter was here to make a splash. As they were hit with inches of snow for days, the winter activities began. The snowmen were being built, snowball fights were happening, and you know the snowmobiles were coming out.
A 43-year-old man was riding his snowmobile in Iron Mountain, Michigan before things ended tragically. He also had a 9-year-old boy riding passenger during the time of the accident. Michigan State Police were called to a spot near Knight and South Park Avenues for reports of a snowmobile accident.
The investigation of the crash is ongoing, but they do believe that speed and loss of control are the cause of the crash but have no solidified details at the moment. Michigan State Troopers were able to dictate that the snowmobile had hit the tree and ejected both passenger upon impact.
Neither of them were wearing helmets but the 9-year-old boy seems to be virtually unscathed as they believe he only has minor injuries. Unfortunately, the 43-year-old man did not have the same luck and would later succumb to his injuries at a hospital in Green Bay.
