Michigan Native’s Unique National Anthem Overshadows Home Run Derby
The Home Run Derby is one of the most exciting events in all of sports, its comparable to the 3-point shootout, the dunk contest, hockey shootout, penalty kicks, and other all-star/ skill competitions that take place in sports. Both die-hard and casual baseball fans turn their heads and give their undivided attention to the MLB Home Run Derby and celebrate all of the moonshot mania that occurs. I would say this year's Derby was no different but that couldn't be farther from the truth.
This year's Home Run Derby took place in Arlington at Globe Life Field, home of the Texas Rangers, as contestants from the AL and NL battled to be crowned the Home Run Derby Champion. The Home Run Derby itself was a spectacular event that went down to the last few swings, but the dingers are being talked about far less than the other thing that went down at the Home Run Derby. The night was stolen by the time the first batter stepped to the plate courtesy of this Michigan native.
Teoscar Hernandez defeated Bobby Witt Jr in the final round of the Home Run Derby on Monday night to take the Home Run Derby crown but was overshadowed by the other star of the night. Surprisingly, the real star of the night wasn't a baseball but instead was a singer who started her life in Michigan. Ingrid Andress performed the National Anthem before the moonshots started flying and it was an unforgettable performance to say the least.
Ingrid Andress is now being compared to Fergie and Roseanne for the worst national anthem performances ever. I'm not sure what happened when she started to sing the anthem, but it sounded very different than the rest of her music, which she has won 4 Grammys for during her career. Although, as you can see below, she did not appear to be a grammy award winning singer last night.
Ingrid Andress was born in Southfield, Michigan and spent very little time in the Mitten state before her family packed up and moved to Highlands Ranch, Colorado. Nonetheless, we still get to have stake and claim in being her birthplace, which means Michigan has produced one of the worst national anthem performances ever.
