Michigan’s NOAA Outlook For November, December, & January
We are just 44 days away from the Winter Solstice which will mark the true beginning of the Winter season but as we know here in Michigan, there's a good chance that we will begin to experience the winter weather much sooner than that. As we dip into November, we are all beginning to pull out the thick hoodies, coats, and boots.
Being warm and bundled up in the winter months used to feel like it was impossible to do as the temperatures were frigid and there was snow everywhere. Wearing snowpants, multiple pairs of socks, gloves, a hat, scarf, and boots still didn't feel like enough. Now, half the time you don't need more than a hoodie and light jacket.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) takes a look at weather patterns and gives predications on how the winter could and should turn out for a 3-month period. This year, they predict that Michigan will see another winter that leans on the warmer side in comparison to those in the past.
It looks like this year will be another year where the winter coats may not have to be as big and you can wear your stylish Ugg boots for both comfort and swag, rather than having to wear traditional winter boots to keep your feet warm. So, do the higher-than-average winter temperatures and warmer days mean less snow?
Well, depending on where you live in the state of Michigan, you may be in for a greener and drier winter than you are used to, but other parts of the state should be seeing more snow than an average winter. The NOAA has predicted that the Upper Peninsula and parts of the Northern Lower Peninsula have a chance to experience more snow than they are used to.
The rest of the state has equal chances to experience the same amount of snow they always do, less snow than they are used to, or they could even experience more snow fall than they have in the past. The U.S Drought Monitor says that the entire state of Michigan is somewhere between abnormally dry and severe drought as we wait on precipitation.
