BEWARE: Mushrooms Could Cause Harm To Michigan Residents
Mushrooms are a vegetable that has many different purposes including but not limited to nutrition and cleaning purposes. Michigan is home to several different types of mushrooms, the most famous of them being the Morel mushroom, which brings hunters to the Mitten state from all over the country. Although Morel mushrooms are famous and taste great, they aren't the only popular mushrooms that are in Michigan.
Psilocybin mushrooms have also become more popular over the years as states like Oregon and Washington have decriminalized the hallucinogenic drugs. There have been many studies performed to find the benefits of these drugs which found that microdosing can cause positive affects for users. This trend has started to make its way around the country, which at the same time is placing many people in danger. There have been many different mushroom products that have been produced and there is one that could cause harm or serious injury to users, and it may be in Michigan.
There are multiple cities in Michigan like Ferndale, Detroit, and Ann Arbor who already have either decriminalized hallucinogenic drugs or have started the conversation to do so. This means that there are either residents already using these products and microdosing or medical professionals have begun asking for permission to use these products. As these ideas come to fruition, safety is on the minds of lawmakers in the state of Michigan.

The FDA is warning consumers of a certain microdose chocolate bar that has been causing injuries across the country. They are encouraging retailers and consumers to stray away from the "Diamond Shruumz" brand which makes microdosed chocolate bars. The FDA has issued this warning because 8 people have already reported feeling ill after eating the chocolate bar but no deaths have been tied to the product as of now.
Below are some of the symptoms that have been reported by people who have consumed the Diamond Shruumz product:
- Seizures
- Central nervous system depression (loss of consciousness, confusion, sleepiness)
- Agitation
- Abnormal heart rates
- Hyper and hypotension
- Nausea
- Vomiting
Diamond Shruumz is different than other magic mushroom brands as they use proprietary blend of nootropic and functional mushrooms” instead of “psilocybin, amanita or any scheduled drugs.” They haven't quite figured out how these chocolates are causing injury, but they have started investigating the matter.
If you or someone you know becomes ill after consuming Diamond Shruumz’s chocolate bars, the FDA recommends speaking to a health care provider and/or contacting the Poison Help Line at 1-800-222-1222.
