Can You Shoot Down A Hovering Drone In Michigan?
Drones have become a large part of our society as many different businesses and individuals use them for many different purposes. One of the main purposes for drones is to gather intelligence, footage, and photos of a certain area for a number of reasons. It is common to see drones at sporting games, festivals, and other large events. Also, drone light shows have become more popular over the last few years.
I am one of the many people in the world that have been trained on flying drones and understand all the important rules and regulations required by the FAA laws surrounding drones and their usage. There are many different places that are considered off limits and no fly zones and restrictions to private property. Nonetheless, most places people are free to fly drones even if they cause some inconvenience for others.
Recently, there have been many companies exploring drone delivery and testing out their products to see if it is possible. This means that there are more drones flying in residential neighborhoods than normal. If you've ever heard the blades of a drone then you know it can be annoying, is there anything that can be done about it?
Well, firstly, if you're annoyed by them put on some headphones, go inside, or leave from the area entirely, but causing harm to the drone is the one thing you cannot do. A man in Florida took upon himself to grab his 9mm and take the drone out after he thought it was spying on him. So, are you allowed to take a drone out here in Michigan?
Short answer, No. The long answer is no, because it is illegal under federal law to shoot down any aircraft. The FAA is responsible for all American airspace from the ground up and says there are no restrictions for where a drone can fly just where it can take off and land.
This is in place because shooting at any aircraft creates an unsafe environment for everyone in the vicinity as this could cause damage to the aircraft, persons, or property and perpetrators can be hit with civil or criminal charges from the FAA for doing so.
