Southwest Michigan’s Juneteenth Events
Way back in 1865 on the 19th day of the 6th month, the last enslaved people were notified that the emancipation proclamation had been signed and they were free people to do as they please. Since then, this day has been known as Juneteenth and is the official independence day for black people in America.
Now, the entire weekend leading up to and the day of is full of activities tailored to the culture. Spending countless hours telling/listening to stories, live DJs and musical performances, food, games, fun, and overall celebration of Black life. This year will be no different as Southwest Michigan will have a plethora of events stretching across the 4 day holiday weekend.
No reason to delay the inevitable anymore, here is a list of Juneteenth events taking place in Southwest Michigan.
