It's no surprise that inflation has hit our country like a punch to the face. We have all been put between a rock and a hard place after going a couple of years with weird rules about how much we could interact and work. Of course, to supplement our economy and keep everyone afloat, we were granted stimulus checks. Some figured this would be free money but others knew that the government would get it back one way or another.

As the cost of living in America continues to rise and we all try to recover from the unprecedented circumstances we were in, Americans are looking for ways to make ends meet any way they can has turned into a lifetime of hacks and searching for them no matter where you go. There's one that's come out about Walmart and everyone has been using it, so much so that Walmart is cracking down and adjusting their policy on those who do this.

I know you're wondering what it is that has Walmart higher-ups so rattled, it's just coupons. Shoppers have been using coupons to make Walmart's already low prices even lower and Walmart has had enough. There are 94 Walmart stores in Michigan and all of them will adhere to the new guidelines surrounding coupon usage.

Changing Coupons

One of the major changes is that Walmart will not give cash back or allow overages to apply to other items in the transaction if the coupon's discount is greater than the item. Customers are also no longer permitted to use more than four identical coupons per day and Coupons In the News says that one of the most significant changes is that there will be no more overrides. If a checkout scanner does not accept the coupon a manager will not override it.

These changes went into effect back on September 24th, 2023. This means that there will be no more getting things for a cheaper price because the sticker price is lower than the coupon or using invalid/expired coupons. The bigger part of this is the latter half as managers will not be coming to override a coupon that doesn't scan at the register, so pay attention to those expiration dates.

Notable Changes

Of course, these aren't the only changes that are coming to the coupon policy and a few of these are a big deal. Now I know sometimes we get away with grabbing the strawberry-flavored applesauce but still being able to use the coupon even though is for the cinnamon-flavored applesauce, things like this won't fly anymore.

The new Walmart coupon policy also says:

  • No digital coupons on customers' phones will be accepted
  • No expired coupons will be accepted
  • Items must match the size, brand, quantity, color, etc. or coupons will not be accepted
  • Only one manufacturer coupon per item will be accepted
  • Coupons must scan at register

These are some serious upgrades to the coupon policy so before going and thinking you can be the next person to end up on extreme couponing just know that Walmart won't be the place to do it because you will be denied due to the new coupon policy.
