Not too long ago there was an announcement that there will be even more Rite Aid locations closing within the Buckeye state. Rite Aid has been facing inflation, theft, and other problems that has caused their leadership to close many of their underperforming locations across the country and a handful of them were in Ohio. Rite Aid is just one of many chain retail stores that has had to close multiple locations across the country, now, another one is on the chopping block.

The effects of the Covid-19 pandemic have continued to rage on as we are almost 3 years removed from the pandemic ending. Many of the small businesses all over the country had to fold because they couldn't recover from their profit losses, now that same fate is happening to many of the large corporations and big names we have grown to know and love. Ohio has seen a lot of these companies shutter their doors and leave their towns looking empty and another chain retail company will be joining them in the business graveyard.

This time, Walgreens has announced that they will be closing 150 stores across America and another 300 Boots stores in the United Kingdom, meaning their parent company will be closing a total of 450 locations around the world. Michigan was affected by the Walgreens closure as many of their locations will close as well, but why are they closing?

Walgreens announced that they would be closing these locations because they are underperforming, mostly due to the fall in Covid testing and vaccine sales have dropped. This makes sense, if you're not making profits than why stay open? The only thing is, Covid can't be the only reason they are losing profits. There have been rumors that a lot of the locations that have been closing are due to large theft rates causing Walgreens to lose even more money.

Walgreens has not officially announced which locations they will be closing around the state or country, just that they are evaluating and closing 150 locations across the country. Some of us have gotten a leg up on knowing which locations will close because we are Walgreens Pharmacy users, in which Walgreens contacted these individuals via letter by mail to notify them of the closing and where their new Walgreens Pharmacy will be located.

If you haven't received a letter in the mail than either continue to check over the next couple of weeks/months, ask your local Walgreens employee if there are any plans to close, or simply be excited that your Walgreens won't be closing and continue to shop and support.
