Detroit Pistons Legend To Join New Orleans Pelicans Staff
Back in the late 80s and early 90s, Joe Dumars was one of the most talented players in not just Detroit or Michigan but in the entire NBA. By the end his career he would win multiple championships with the Pistons, become a 6 time all-star, one NBA Finals MVP, multiple All NBA team selections, and many more accolades before hanging up the gym shoes.

Joe Dumars is one of the many stars that has left a legacy within the game of basketball as the NBA's sportsmanship award is named after him as well. Shortly after retiring, Dumars would become the President of basketball operations for the Detroit Pistons and helping lead them back to the promised land in 2004. He would also win Executive of the year in the 2002-03 season.
After spending some time with both the Pistons and the Sacramento Kings, Dumars would be named the executive vice president and head of basketball operations for the NBA in 2022. Joe was responsible for overseeing all Basketball Operations matters for the NBA, including the development of playing rules and interpretations, conduct and discipline, and policies and procedures relating to the operation of games.
Pistons Legend Joe Dumars To Become Pelicans President Of Basketball Operations
It has been reported that Joe Dumars is expected to sign a contract to become the President of Basketball Operations for the New Orleans Pelicans beginning in the 2025-2026 NBA season. This is significant because Dumars is a Louisiana native who played his college ball at McNeese State back in the 80s.
Shams Charania is the first to report the news of Joe Dumars being the front runner for the vacant leadership role as the Pelicans fired their former President of Basketball Operations David Griffin after finishing this season at 21-61, which was the 4th worst record in the NBA this season.
The Pelicans are hoping Dumars can bring his winning ways to New Orleans after he was able to win back-to-back titles with the Detroit Pistons while playing and another with the Pistons in 2003 as an executive. There have been no additional details about the size or length of the contract released as of now.
