Famous Michigan Rapper First To Go Platinum In 4 Different Decades
Most states are able to say that they have some musical history and have produced some of the best artist the music game has ever scene. Now some states and cities are more known for a certain genre of music, and I think a lot of that is based upon the lifestyle they have in those areas. Detroit is one of the few cities that can say they have footprints in every genre of music.
Although Detroit is a versatile city when it comes to music, there are a few genres that they have a little more skin in the game than others. Genres like hip hop, jazz, soul, R&B, and rap have either been influenced or dominated by artist who are from or have ties to Detroit. Detroit may be known as the Motor City due to Ford but let's not forget about Motown and all they've done for music. With that being said, this rapper has been putting Michigan on the map for over 40 years and is still going as he just made history again.
I don't think the rapper in question is a surprise anymore as there's really only one Detroit rapper that has been around for that long. Yes, it's Eminem, Eminem has been killing the rap game for almost 40 years as he has been in the rap game since the 90s. It doesn't seem like that long ago since he linked up with Dr Dre and the west coast crew and became a star.
We all know the dramatized version of his life story from the 8 Mile movie that showed how he lived a rough life and would use rap music as an escape. He made a name for himself by spilling out his life stories to deal with the pain and isn't afraid to diss anyone, including his mother.
Now, Eminem can truly call himself one of the rap game's GOATs as he has once again done something that no other rapper has ever done. Eminem has had an album go platinum in 4 different decades, no rapper in the past has had albums go platinum in more than 2 decades. Eminem is truly in an echelon of his own as he continues to drop fire rhymes and tell stories over beats to this day.
Eminem has also accomplished another feat that may never be broken as he is the best-selling rapper of all time with over 220 million albums sold throughout his Hall of Fame career.
