Everyone already knows that being a new mom is hard enough without stressing over how you’re going to afford diapers, formula, or a trip to the doctor.

With the cost of everything on the rise lately, being a new parent can be daunting for your finances, regardless of how prepared you are.

Thankfully, a new program called Rx Kids is stepping up to support Michigan families when they need it most, with real cash they can use to help start their families.

The Rx Kids program is designed to give moms and babies a strong start by providing $1,500 during a mother’s pregnancy, and $500 a month for up to a year after their baby is born.

Just to give you an idea: that’s as much as $7,500 to help cover the basics during a time when income often drops and expenses skyrocket.

I think the coolest things most Michigan mom’s don’t realize about this program is that unlike complicated assistance programs, Rx Kids is simple, flexible, and based on one big idea: families deserve real support during pregnancy and early childhood.

If you give Michigan families a chance to start off on the right foot, they’re more likely to raise successful and awesome Michiganders. (And, that benefits us all.)

If you’re a mom to be, you need to live in one of these participating communities to qualify:
• City of Flint
• City of Kalamazoo
• City of Pontiac
• Eastern Upper Peninsula (Alger, Chippewa, Luce, Mackinac, and Schoolcraft Counties)

Applications are currently open in all of these locations, and more communities may be added soon, so it’s always worth checking back if you plan to start a family in the coming years.

So if you’re expecting or have a newborn and you live in one of these areas, this could be the extra help you didn’t know you needed, but definitely deserve. You can learn more or apply at Rx Kids.
