Going to college is an experience that many of us were blessed to partake in and is what many people say is the desired path to success. That's the thing about life though, is everyone has a different path through life and to success. Also, everyone has a different idea of what success is but we can all agree on one thing, college is fun.
College allows you to have some of the best experiences in your life as you begin to transition into adulthood. The parties, the spring breaks, the road trips, the late nights, and everything else that comes with college are second to none. Some of us, are lucky enough to take advantage of the opportunity to study abroad.
Using the study abroad programs to live overseas while getting an education is top-tier education. These experiences not only open these students up to new cultures and other land around the world but also help them make connections and bolster their professional careers.
For students here in Michigan, there are several schools to choose from that can help you achieve the dream of studying abroad. Open Doors is an organization that records study abroad statistics from around the world and places a list of the best performances.
The United States can narrow down which colleges are sending the most students abroad to study. Multiple Michigan colleges were ranked highly on the lists created by Open Doors. Here is how the Michigan colleges ranked amongst others in the country:
Overall
#2- University of Michigan. I think it comes as no surprise that the most prestigious university within the state is producing the best results. They are the #1 ranked public institution as it has almost 3,500 students who have received academic credits for studying abroad.
#22- Michigan State University. I also believe that this was expected as this is the second-largest university within the state and has sent just over 2,000 students abroad.
Master’s Colleges Rankings
#25- Spring Arbor University. SAU has gotten a 34% participation rate in their study abroad program.
#37- Calvin University. A small college coming in and offering some of the same amenities that the larger ones do and has a 23% participation rate.
Baccalaureate Section
#19- Kalamazoo College. They have an impressive 77% participation rate within their study abroad program
#30- Alma University. Not far behind the Hornets is another small school that has a great participation rate of 66%.
These were the most notable Michigan colleges that were selected on some of the lists but you can see the full lists from Open Doors here.
