Michigan’s Oldest Hotel Is Located In Marshall, Michigan & Their Rates Are Low

With Michigan having such a rich history in this country’s past, there are no doubt plenty of hotels in the state that are recognized as being historic. Obviously one of the more well-known and iconic hotels rests on Mackinac Island at the Grand Hotel. But not even this hotel, which opened up in 1887 can say it is the oldest hotel in the state.

That honor goes to a hotel right here in Southwest Michigan in Marshall. The National House Inn Bed and Breakfast is technically the oldest operating hotel in the state, having been completed in 1835, as their website details:

The National House Inn bed and breakfast on Marshall's picturesque Fountain Circle is the oldest operating hotel in the State of Michigan. It has been designated as a State Historical site and is also listed on the National Register of Historical Places. The Inn was built in 1835 by Colonel Andrew Mann who used lumber from the Ketchum sawmill and bricks that were molded and fired on the site to construct what has endured as the oldest brick building in Calhoun County. It is believed to be a stop on the Underground Railroad.
