For 66 years, Sherman‘s Dairy Bar was jam-packed at 1601 Phoenix St. on the shores of Lake Michigan in South Haven. So, at the end of the 2024 season, when they announced that they would be closing for good, the community was distraught, as one of their staple locations in South Haven would no longer be serving families.

But in mid-April, people noticed a new Facebook page by the name of Sherman’s of South Haven featuring a cow and its calf licking an ice cream cone. Sure enough, it was discovered that after rebranding and under new ownership, Sherman’s of South Haven was back to selling their legendary Hudsonville ice cream cones.

Mike Shimanski, who owns Oink’s Dutch Treat in New Buffalo, has taken ownership of the legendary ice cream shop, which still offers it signature ice cream flights, featuring more than 30 flavors. He’s trying to keep everything as it was before, as he told the Herald-Palladium:

We’ve got to rebrand so there is no confusion. We are not affiliated with (Hudsonville), we can buy their ice cream, and we can buy anybody else’s. Our intention is to try and serve Sherman’s (ice cream flavors). But if they stop making it, then we will be here serving, preferably Michigan-made, premium ice creams.”

Currently, their hours are as follows:
Monday - Friday 2PM to 9PM
Saturday and Sunday - Noon to 9PM

He continued by elaborating on some big plans for the future:

We’d like to have a dining room, but it’s a matter of what’s feasible.  I’d like to have a longer season, but it’s probably not going to happen for a couple of years.
