Traveling is one of the joys of life that everyone isn't blessed to experience but those who do understand the different methods and all their nuisances. Most of us know that we can take a boat on a cruise, board a train to travel domestically, and taking a road trip which all involve staying on solid Earth. One of the quickest and most used forms of travel is flying.

There are thousands of international and domestic flights happening in North America every single day as people is traveling to different parts of the country and world. With literally hundreds of airports in North America, it's easy to notice that some are bigger than others, some have better customer service, and lastly some are more punctual than others. At the end of the day, there are tons of metrics you can use to rank the airports but this one in Michigan will always be amongst the best on the continent.

The continent of North America consists of Canada, Mexico, and the United States and is the third largest while being the 4th most populated continent on Earth. With thousands of airports within these 3 countries, they have separated the list into mega, large, and medium sized airports.

Every year, J.D Power puts together a list ranking airports based on their customer satisfaction. The list uses surveys from people who have traveled through at least one Airport within the North American continent and their arrival and departure experiences, which does include connecting flights as well. Here are the factors they used to make the list:

  • ease of travel through airport
  • level of trust with airport
  • terminal facilities
  • airport staff
  • departure/to airport experience
  • food, beverage and retail
  • and arrival/from airport experience

Michigan was able to land one airport on this list and I'm sure you can guess which one it is. I am a big fan of flying out of the Gerald R Ford International airport in Grand Rapids, Michigan but it's no secret that the Detroit Metropolitain Airport (DTW) is the best one in the state. DTW was given a score of 643 on a 1,000-point scale and only trails the Minneapolis-St Paul airport by 28 points for the bragging rights as the best North American mega airport.
