I don't think we are ever going to be able to escape the recalls as they seem to be endless but this time, it's not something we have to worry about harming us as humans. Instead, we have to be concerned for our best friends, our fur animals. Dogs are some of the best companions and as much as they love and protect us, we have to do the same sometimes.

Pets look to us for almost everything as we are their entire lives. They look forward to us returning home, playing with them, taking them on walks, and of course dinner time. Normally dinner time is fun but for some pets and their owners, it can quickly turn into a nightmare, especially with this news coming out.

One of the hardest things is finding a food brand your dog likes but it's even worse when you have to find a new one. You have to wean them off their current brand and on to the new one. This can be challenging but normally works, but sometimes you're not able to take that approach like during a recall.

For example, if your dog food brand is recalled like we are seeing across the country? Michigan is one of many states that has to be on the lookout for dog food that isn't safe for their pets to enjoy. Blue Ridge Beef put out a recall for their cat and kitten food which has now been extended to their dog food.

The animal food has been placed on recall due to a fear of salmonella. Blue Ridge Beef recalled their 2-pound bags of natural mix and in total weighs out to over 5,700 pounds of dog food. The FDA says bags marked with a UPC code 854298001054 and the lot numbers N26/12/31 should be considered contaminated.

Salmonella Sights In Pets

If a pet is exposed to Salmonella, they can incubate the bacteria for as long as 6 days before showing any symptoms. Salmonella can be dangerous and even fatal to pets once it enters their bloodstream. Here are some symptoms to look out for:

  • lethargy
  • diarrhea or bloody diarrhea
  • fever
  • vomiting

If you fed your pet this food and they are exhibiting these signs, the FDA says contact your vet immediately. Those who may have medical bills due to this recall from Blue Ridge Beef can contact the company by dialing 704-873-2072 or by emailing them at blueridgebeefnc@yahoo.com.
