Large scale closures have become another one of those unfortunate trends that have become all too familiar. It seems like we can't go more than a couple of months before hearing that more of our favorites would be closing up shop. Covid and inflation have drastically changed the restaurant landscape over the last 6 years. If you think back to before those two, we had multiple 24-hour fast-food locations, many more mom-and-pop eateries, and late-night diners were a staple. Now, all of those things have ceased to exist, making late night eating so much more difficult.

If you were ever hungry late night, there was one place you could always count on being open, Denny's. Well, now that will not be the case in many places including the state of Michigan. Denny's has announced that they will be closing about 180 locations across the United States in 2025.

Denny's is planning to close on underperforming stores which started at the end of 2024 and has actually had stores added to the list. Many of the stores being closed are also dealing with expiring leases and aging buildings, which makes their main criteria not turning a profit or being too old to be remodeled.

It's amazing that Denny's has been around for over 70 years and many of the closing locations have been in service for at least 30 years if not longer. They have not given a list of the exact locations that will be closing but they have said they will be offsetting the closures with about 25-40 openings.

Half of those openings will be new Denny's restaurants while the other half will be Keke's Breakfast Cafes which Denny's bought in 2022. So, we are unsure whether any of the Michigan locations will be closed or not but it's safe to assume for now and be happy later if they don't.
