Protecting Your Property: No Trespassing Laws In Michigan
Almost everyone dreams of owning their own house or property, but many of us often forget that there is so much more attached to having this privilege. Firstly, there are other costs associated with owning a home or property like maintenance and taxes among others. So, yes owning your own home is a dream but it's much more of a task and a responsibility than some of us may realize.
Another responsibility that comes with owning property and/or a home is having to protect that property and the belongings that exist within those boundaries. For some people, this is simple, exercise your Second Amendment and have firearms within your home or property, for others they would choose to take another route. Michigan makes this easy by having trespassing laws that are clear to understand.
Some states have much more relaxed laws surrounding establishing your property lines which can make for some sticky situations. Michigan does allow some of this with the use of purple paint but for the most part, the laws surrounding property markings and trespassing are very simple. Laws in Michigan state that there must be clear and readable signage posted on your property.
Michigan law requires that your property has a "No Trespassing" sign on your property to label it as protected under the law. The sign must be at least 144 square inches in size and have contrasting colors to make it viewable and readable from a distance. These signs can be used in court to protect your property and can deter criminals from trespassing.

The law also states that you should use any other specific language to point at the other protections on your property. For example, saying that your property is under camera surveillance, beware of dogs, or other language that is important to use. Lastly, they must be placed along the boundaries and/or the entrances to your home/property.
