Popular and Legendary Southwest Michigan Ice Cream Shop Closes
Ice cream is a monumental part of our culture as Americans and many of us don't notice it. I'm going to be honest, up until a few years ago, I was oblivious to how big of a deal we made out of ice cream here in America, but thinking about ice cream trucks made it all click. Going to get ice cream is more than just a summertime activity, it's a fabric piece of America. Michigan takes the ice cream game to a new level as there are several creameries and mom-and-pop ice cream shops all over the state and the chain stores are sprinkled in as well.
Michigan has its own ice cream flavor, Superman, that everybody either enjoys or is jealous of and makes a big deal of opening day for the ice cream shops. Nothing is better in the summer than a trip to the beach being capped off with ice cream. Now, things may change for those of us in Southwest Michigan as we are losing one of our favorite ice cream shops of all time.
For as long as I can remember, at least once a year either my family or my friends, maybe both would take a trip to South Haven during the summer to have a beach day. Enjoying the time in the sun, and the sand, and swimming in Lake Michigan will forever be a core memory of my life. One of the best parts of the trip always came at the end, on our way back to town.
We would make a purposeful detour to enjoy some ice cream to help cool our bodies off from the hot day. When you're in South Haven, there's only one right answer when looking to satisfy your ice cream desires, Sherman's. They easily have some of the best ice cream in all of Michigan but you only have a few more days to stop by.

Normally, this wouldn't be that sad of news as the season is coming to an end and most ice cream shops are closing due to the cold weather that's on its way. This time, Sherman's closing announcement will leave the "Sorry We're Closed" sign hanging up for a while. Yes, we are sharing the unfortunate news that our beloved Sherman's Dairy Bar will be closing forever at the end of the 2024 season.
The season officially ends on October 25th this year and the above Facebook post shows you the words and feelings of Sherman after 66 seasons serving the people of Southwest Michigan.
