Legendary Michigan Ice Cream Shop Reopens Under New Owner
Around this time last year, many of us were devastated to find out that one of our beloved treasures in Southwest Michigan would be closing down forever. Michigan is known for many different things, but many people forget the ties that the Mitten state has to ice cream. Michigan loves the cold sweet treat to a level that many people just don't understand.

There are several different ice cream parlors and shops that are local and unique to Michigan including Hudsonville Ice Cream, Moo-Ville Creamery, Plainwell Ice Cream and many others. In the summer nothing beats going to the beach and enjoying ice cream on the way home and one local shop made that trip feel special.
For over 66 years, the Sherman Dairy Bar in South Haven served thousands of customers a summer with their delicious ice cream, popsicles, milkshakes, and other treats. I would look forward to taking a trip to South Haven knowing that Sherman's would be the last stop on the way out of town. Unfortunately, last year they announced that would be their final season in business.
Iconic Michigan Ice Cream Shop Reopening With New Owner
Now, I and many other ice cream fans can rejoice as Sherman's Dairy Bar will be returning but with some slight changes. Starting with the name, they will now be known as Sherman's of South Haven but will still serve the same ice cream they have become famous for via cones, bowls and other imaginative formats.
Mike Schimanski of New Buffalo, who also owns Oink’s Dutch Treat purchased Sherman's because it is an iconic ice cream shop and he wants to serve the people for as long as they want Sherman's and Sherman's has ice cream available. Hudsonville Ice Cream owns the Sherman brand and will continue to make their ice cream for the time being.

If you can't decide from the over 30 flavors that Sherman's of South Haven serves than you can get a flight and enjoy more than one flavor. They have decided to keep the cow statues on the roof and have incorporated them into their logo designs as you can see on their social media.
Many of the employees that worked under the Sherman's Dairy Bar name have signed to continue working under Sherman's of South Haven, which means familiar faces will be serving your favorites.
