One of the many complaints of anyone living in the Midwest is that the roads are awful and it's even worse from people who are traveling into the Midwest. Michigan actually has a horrible reputation amongst truck drivers and other travelers for having horrible road conditions. It's so bad that there are memes and videos out expressing their disdain for Michigan roads and how easily you can tell you have crossed the border into the Mitten state.

Fixing the roads is one of the many things that people are always asking the governor and other state and local government officials to accomplish. For the most part, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has done a solid job on keeping the roads in drivable conditions and that causes an entirely different headache, construction.

Where Did Southwest Michigan Counties Rank In The State For Road Quality

Although there seems to always be construction going on somewhere as they try to update infrastructure to keep up with the times, things just aren't quite good enough. We can't deny that the harsh weather conditions were experience throughout the year along with the driving traffic makes it difficult to have nice roads in our state all the time.

There are some areas in the state that have better roads than others but overall, Michigan struggles with road quality. Michigan has been using the PASER system to assess road quality for decades. They have used this to help decide what kind of road work should be done in certain areas.

Southwest Michigan has some interesting PASER scores which has led to some interesting figures that may contradict some of our feelings. Below is how they ranked amongst other counties in Michigan for road quality:
